Repair and modification of Kanttila
Kanttila is one of Kuopio’s oldest buildings in use. It is protected and must not be demolished. After extensive modification and repair work, the house will be maintained in accordance with the operating principles of responsible construction and real estate business.
The renovated Kanttila offers a physical and virtual meeting and performance venue for various operators, implements international art and science residency opportunities and develops cultural operating environments.
Cost estimate and business plans
The entire modification and repair work is estimated to cost approximately 6.8 million euros.

Operation of the future Kanttila
Minna Canthin talo ry is a non-profit association that aims to build Kanttila for the use of culture. After the completion of the transformation and repair work, the association will maintain the Minna Canth -academy in and out of Kanttila, which cherishes Minna Canth’s legacy by supporting activities related to freedom of expression and equality in various forms.
In order to achieve these objectives, the Minna Canth -academy will coordinate an international residency programme in Kanttila and offer art and cultural spaces suitable for residency throughout Eastern Finland. Residency operations are at the heart of Kanttila’s activities.
